Amsterdam - Dutch Delights From Humberside Airport
The fourth daily service, which runs seven days a week from Humberside Airport to the international hub of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, has this week resumed operation for the winter season with leading airline KLM. The increased choice of service has introduced more travelling flexibility for those using the route on the region’s doorstep as a convenient connection for more than 300 destinations worldwide. Other passengers have taken advantage of easy travelling to enjoy the attractions of Amsterdam as the ideal destination for a relaxing short break. The one hour duration of the flight is of significant benefit to the residents of the Humber region to reach Europe quickly for onward travel or to spend weekend breaks visiting this colourful, lively city, where English is universally spoken.
Rob Goldsmith, Managing Director of Humberside Airport, commented:
“The decision from KLM to introduce the fourth service from Humberside Airport last year was fantastic news and the culmination of much hard work by the airport’s team in putting the business case for these services in place.
We demonstrated that the demand for additional services from the Humber region was there and KLM responded in a very positive way. More people from the region have had the opportunity to have a smooth journey to their final destination at a time of day to suit them, or to maximise a night away in Amsterdam, for example, leaving at 06:15 on Saturday morning and returning to Humberside at 21:15 on Sunday evening. The Airport also has dedicated check in and car parking facilities for passengers travelling to Amsterdam.”
Amsterdam has much to offer the tourist, with outdoor music and drama performances on stages set up throughout the city. The 165 canals, with their 1281 bridges, provide a picturesque backdrop and an interesting network for cruising by boat to have a unique view of the city.
Discover how the famous Dutch lager is brewed at the Heineken museum, admire the bravery of Anne Frank who was hidden throughout the war, tour the Ajax football stadium or, for art lovers, see the originals of Van Gogh and Rembrandt’s the most well-known paintings.
Amsterdam is the city of the bicycle, with around 600,000 in use by local residents as their main means of travelling around the city. It is also home to the smallest house in Europe, just off the centrally located Dam Square, whose facade measures only 2.02 metres.
