First Flight to Fuerteventura from Humberside Airport

Just days after Humberside Airport waved off passengers aboard the first flight to Dublin with Ryanair, the airport celebrated another first with the inaugural flight to the island of Fuerteventura.

Mr and Mrs Kite of Scarborough were first in line to board the first flight from their local airport to this beautiful isle which is part of the Canary Islands. They started their two week holiday in the sun in style when they were presented with a bottle of champagne by Rhiannan Davis, Consumer Communications Executive for Humberside Airport.

This new service, operated by Airtours, Thomas Cook and Thomson, will be a great addition to the airport for summer 2006, which looks set to be the airport’s best ever programme of flights. It provides an exotic alternative for passengers who previously may have travelled from the airport to the neighbouring islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria or Lanzarote from their local airport but want to try something new. Fuerteventura is a more relaxed and laid back option for those who want to take advantage of the fantastic weather that the Canary Islands enjoy and passengers can easily island hop during their stay.

Step onto the shores of Fuerteventura and you would never know that this tranquil paradise used to be a fiery, volcanic island. Passengers need not worry that their peace and quiet will be spoiled though as it has been about 7, 000 years since the last eruption. For passengers looking for a little adventure during their stay, Fuerteventura is able to offer a wealth of sporting activities and is renowned as an excellent location for watersports.

Rhiannan Davis commented: “It was a pleasure to welcome Mr and Mrs Kite as the first passengers on our new service to Fuerteventura. This will be a welcome addition to our Summer programme for passengers who are looking for a more relaxing holiday in the sun and is a great choice for couples and families alike. We hope that Mr and Mrs Kite and all of the passengers travelling to Fuerteventura from Humberside Airport enjoy a well earned break in the sun.”
