KLM Announces a Fourth Daily Service to Amsterdam from Humberside Airport
Humberside Airport is celebrating today following the announcement that leading airline KLM will dedicate an additional weekday service from the Airport to the international hub of Amsterdam.
The fourth daily service will begin operating from the region’s local airport from winter 2006. This further commitment from KLM to Humberside Airport will mean that passengers will be able to take advantage of this connection to more than 300 destinations across the world on the region’s doorstep.
Rob Goldsmith, Managing Director of Humberside Airport said, “The commitment made by KLM to Humberside Airport through the decision to introduce an additional service is fantastic news for this Airport. This is the culmination of much hard work by the Airport’s team in putting the business case for these services in place. We demonstrated that the demand for additional services from the Humber region was there and KLM has responded in a very positive way. We will maintain our work to consolidate and expand the services that we offer at Humberside Airport to ensure that we continue to provide quality, choice and convenience to passengers throughout the region.”
Vincent Knoops, KLM’s General Manager in the UK said, "We are delighted to be introducing an extra service at Humberside Airport. KLM's Amsterdam service is extremely popular out of the region and the additional daily flight reflects growing demand for fast and efficient connections from the local area. As an airline, we place great value on our regional departure network and we are delighted to be able to offer Humberside increased services as well as the latest technological enhancements, such as Internet check in, which aid smooth, seamless travel."
This announcement has also been welcomed by local key opinion formers, who are confident that this additional service will be a major boost the region, encouraging further inward investment and strengthening links for international trade.
Dr. Ian Kelly, Chief Executive of the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce commented, “We are highly delighted that KLM is expanding its service from Humberside Airport. This is a key scheduled service for the Airport and its passengers from the region and we hope that it continues to go from strength to strength.”
Councillor Liz Redfern, leader of North Lincolnshire Council said today, "I am delighted to hear this excellent news. It is a real vote of confidence by the airline in the future of the Airport and reflects the economic vibrancy of the area. It is good news for the business community and also travellers who will make use of the service for leisure purposes. North Lincolnshire Council, in whose area the Airport is located, is especially pleased with this news. Additional services and investment make our job that much easier when we are selling the area as location for inward investment. Key decision makers want to know that they are close to a fast growing airport with a wide range of destinations. I congratulate everyone involved with this announcement."
Councillor Carl Minns, Leader of Hull City Council said, "I am delighted to hear that KLM has introduced a fourth daily service to the major passenger hub of Amsterdam from Humberside Airport. This connection is an important asset for the city region and will no doubt play a part in the city's ongoing regeneration projects, as a gateway to business connections across the world."
Councillor Andrew De Freitas, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council commented, “For this important service to be extended to four flights a day is exciting news and will be a major boost for both business and leisure passengers as well as bringing significant economic benefits for the wider region”.
Councillor Stephen Parnaby, Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council commented, "This is great news for Humberside Airport which has been a vital gateway to Europe for the last 30 years. Rob Goldsmith and the team at the Airport should be congratulated for building up such a strong and competitive business. This is particularly impressive in view of the amount of competition in the aviation industry in recent years and this will be of significant benefit to residents of the East Riding and the sub-region as a whole."
Humberside Airport has provided the region with a vital connection to Amsterdam Schiphol for more than 25 years. In fact, the first ever scheduled commercial flight to depart from Humberside Airport back in 1975 was a service to Amsterdam. The service is predominantly used by business passengers but it is also a popular destination for people wanting to take in the charm of old Amsterdam or explore its more cosmopolitan quarters whilst on a short break.
