Record passenger figures at Humberside Airport

Humberside Airport has confirmed record passenger figures for the past three months, reporting significant increases compared to the same period last year.

There were 19,700 scheduled passengers arriving and departing from the Airport during May, which represents a staggering 43.9% increase on the figures for scheduled passengers in May 2005.

These figures show more people travelling for both business and pleasure from their local airport in this month, taking advantage of the regular direct links to the Airport hub of Amsterdam and low-cost flights to the vibrant city of Dublin, which were launched at the Airport in April 2006.

The Airport also saw a marked increase in charter passengers during this month with figures up by 22.4% compared to May 2005. Around 54,000 charter passengers travelled through the Airport during May this year on flights to destinations including Fuerteventura, Rhodes and Tunisia, which were all new to the Airport for summer 2006.

June and April also saw significant increases in passengers travelling through the Airport.

In June, scheduled passenger figures grew by 36.1% year-on-year, with 19,215 charter passengers arriving and departing during this period compared to 14,112 in June last year. Charter figures for this period also rose by 16.9% on the figures reported for June 2005.

April saw a total of 14,400 scheduled passengers arriving and departing, which is an increase of 3.8% on last year’s figure for this period, which was 13, 9000.

Rob Goldsmith, Managing Director at Humberside Airport said, “These fantastic figures highlight the continued growth of Humberside Airport and the confidence of our passengers in the outstanding service that we provide. Our recent passenger figures compare extremely favourably with figures from the same period last year, which is testament to the hard work of the team here at Humberside in securing some great new destinations from the Airport for summer 2006.

The introduction of a varied range of summer destinations this year, including Fuerteventura and Tunisia, provides passengers from the region with more choice than ever before, allowing them to try new destinations as well as revisiting firm favourites such as the Costa del Sol and the Algarve. The launch of a new low cost route to Dublin has also been a major boost for the airport and its passengers and it is a great addition to our exciting and diverse portfolio of flights”.

Rob continued, “We are delighted that passengers from the region are continuing to fly from their local Airport and that many new passengers are taking advantage of the experience, convenience and quality we offer at Humberside Airport.”
