Humberside Airport Kicks The Habit
From 1 July, Humberside Airport will become ‘smoke-free’ to coincide with the national ban on smoking in public places.
The terminal building will no longer have a smoking facility after security control. The Airport’s current smoking room will no longer be used from 1 July. This change has been implemented to protect its employees and customers; providing a safe and healthy environment.
Smoking will still be permitted outside the terminal building, however, within the designated smoking area. Appropriate signs will be situated around the Airport to ensure smokers understand the changes.
Rob Goldsmith, Managing Director of Humberside Airport said
“This new law is welcomed at Humberside Airport as it will provide protection for passengers and staff against secondary smoke. The ban may even encourage people to kick the habit.”
Over the past few months North East Lincolnshire Council's Public Protection team have been working with a number of local businesses including Humberside Airport to help them get ready for Smoke Free on July 1.
Trevor Parkin, Health Improvement Strategy Manager at North Lincolnshire Council said:
"We see the introduction of the smoke free legislation as the most significant event in recent years to bring about real improvements in air quality in enclosed spaces. From 1 July, public areas like the airport will now be safer and healthier for everyone. I'm delighted that Humberside Airport are reminding people of the new law and helping to spread the message of where to get help to quit smoking."
