Summer Sizzles At Humberside Airport Travel

Humberside Airport and Humberside Airport travel (HAT) are celebrating after making the most of the UK’s wet and dreary summer. Bumper figures for July and August with HAT announced an impressive 68% increase in turnover for July compared to the same time last year.

Turkey is leading the way as the most popular summer holiday destination with Cyprus coming second, closely followed by Majorca.

With the Met Office confirming July in England as the wettest since records began and August as the coldest since 1993, it’s no wonder that holiday markers have chosen to visit destinations where the average temperature for July and August can reach in excess of
35C, with up to 12 hours of sunshine and little rain.

The grey weather has played a role in the figures, with holiday makers desperately chasing the sunshine. 92% of bookings made in July through HAT were last minute deals with people travelling between July and October.

The trend for summer sunshine breaks was also evident during the August bank holiday weekend. Anyone who left booking a short break to the last minute was left disappointed as holidays for the weekend were already fully booked by the end of July. HAT is confident that had there been more availability they would have been even busier. Airport bosses are now urging anyone intending to get away for the October half term to book sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment. With bookings already being confirmed for the half term holidays, availability may become limited over the next few weeks.

Rob Goldsmith, Managing Director, Humberside Airport said,
“We’re obviously delighted with the recent performance of HAT. It has been a busy few months and we hope that the trend will continue. We’re now looking ahead to the winter season and look forward to welcoming even more new travellers to HAT and Humberside Airport.”
